KARACHI, Feb 28: Tahir Mughal turned in another superb effort to help Allied Bank obtain a decisive 160-run first-innings lead over PTCL on the second day of the Patron's Trophy fixture at the National Stadium on Monday.
Tahir, a lively medium-pacer who is enjoying a great season, grabbed five for 48 in 16.2 overs in another impressive display. PTCL struggled to 171 all out despite Ashar Zaidi's gallant 61 in almost three hours. The left-hander stroked nine boundaries.
Rashid Latif, the former Pakistan captain, was alert as ever as he held five catches behind the stumps. Allied Bank, who had earlier stretched their overnight score of 250 for seven to 331 all out, decided against asking PTCL to bat again. In the brief period of play, they scored four for no loss.
Tanvir Ahmed and Abdul Rauf provided good support to Tahir with two wickets apiece. Earlier in the day, Tanvir used the long handle to good effect as he hammered 49 off 69 balls, including four fours and one six. Pace man Yasir Ali claimed four for 109 in 29 overs and Riaz Afridi took three for 84 in 36 overs.
