FAISALABAD, Oct 28: PPP has decided to launch a country-wide workers mobilization campaign and hold conventions to press the government to restore democracy and Constitution.
Speaking at a news conference on Sunday evening, central and local leaders of the PPP said that the campaign was being launched on the instructions of chairperson Benazir Bhutto.
The first convention in this connection would be held at Faisalabad on Oct 30 at the residence of former MPA Raja Riaz Ahmed.
The next convention would be organized at Toba Tek Singh on Oct 31. Speakers at conventions would include Punjab president Qasim Zia, central general secretary Raza Rabbani and federal council general secretary Khalid Ahmed Kharal.
They said that efforts would be made to ensure participation of thousands of PPP workers and leaders.
They said that proposals would be sought from the sympathizers, office-bearers and activists to prepare party’s new manifesto.
“The government should hold negotiations with the heads of the major political parties at this critical juncture and not to play in the hands of some inexperienced ministers,” PPP leaders said.
Answering a question, they said that the party policy against terrorism was very clear. Benazir Bhutto had already assured full cooperation to the international community in this regard.
Punjab PPP general secretary Rana Aftab Ahmed Khan; divisional president Raja Riaz Ahmed, city president Imran Murtaza Hani Khan and other office-bearers spoke at the press conference.
