BAHAWALPUR, Feb 25: Over Rs2.8 million embezzlement case of the Gowara research centre has been transferred to the National Accountability Bureau for investigation.

It is learnt that some officials of the federal government departments are involved in the scam. The Anti-Corruption Establishment, which was probing the case, has dispatched the relevant records and files to the NAB officials who will further investigate the issue.

The embezzlement was detected by Punjab Accountant-General Wazir Ahmad Qureshi in the local regional office of the research centre a few months ago. The AG suspended some of the officials of the accounts department while District Accounts Officer Basit Hashmi was transferred to Lahore. A cashier went into hiding after the fraud was unearthed.

ROHI EXPRESS: Bahawalpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Chaudhry Abdul Sattar has demanded the railway authorities that they should restore the route of the Rohi Express.

In a statement here on Friday, he said the train which was running between Khanpur and Rawalpindi was facilitating a number of commuters of Khanpur, Liaquatpur, Samasatta, Bahawalpur and Multan.

Passengers were facing a great deal of difficulty after the cancellation of the route and unable to pay higher fare of other trains and AC coaches. He demanded that the railway officials should take immediate steps to resume the service.

REWARD: Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi has announced a week's salary as bonus for all the police officials in the district, who ensured peace during Ashura.

This was stated by DPO Arif Nawaz while commending the police officials on performing their duties well during Muharram. He thanked the chief minister for encouraging the policemen.
