LAHORE, Feb 23: A man was killed while two other people suffered injuries when a three-storey building collapsed in Old Anarkali on Wednesday. ASP Dr Raja Abid told Dawn the dilapidated building housed shops on ground floor collapsed near Jain Mandar.

He said two people managed to get out of the rubble on their own. He said the police along with other civic agencies launched a rescue operation. He said they recovered the body of a man and two injured people from the rubble. The injured men were admitted to hospital. The body was sent to the mortuary. No case has so far been registered.

GANG BUSTED: Sadar division police claimed on Wednesday to have busted a seven-member robbers' gang known for looting textile mills and seized valuables worth Rs50 million.

SP Zubair Nawaz said four teams of operations and investigation police had been constituted to follow some tips, which had been collected from some textile mills. He said the gang used to break into the mills, hold the staff hostage and took away machines and valuables.

The SP said valuables worth Rs50 million, including machinery belonging to A M Textiles, Crescent Textiles, Atta Bukhsh Factory and Ibex Textiles, had been seized from the robbers.

Besides, he said, a large number of illegal weapons, a stolen truck and a car were recovered on identification of the arrested men. Ring leader of the gang has been identified as Muhammad Arif, and his accomplices as Ashraf, Nasir Masih, Khadim Hussain, Mukhtar Ahmad, Waqar Ahmad and Abdul Hameed.

FOUND DEAD: A watchman, Ramzan, 70, was found slaughtered in a godown in Rang Mahal on Wednesday. Saying no clue has so far been found, the police have removed the body to the city mortuary, and registered a murder case.
