FAISALABAD, May 29: The local Anti-Terrorism Court on Wednesday handed down capital punishment on two counts, three years’ RI, Rs20,000 as compensation money and fined Rs20,000 to a convict in a murder-cum-terrorism case.
Convict Arif Masud will undergo a five-year hard jail if he fails to make the payment.
The judge also awarded life imprisonment on two counts, three years’ jail term, Rs20,000 as compensation money and Rs20,000 as fine to each of the three other accused involved in this case.
Shaukat Hayat, Zulfiqar and Sanaullah will have to undergo five years’ rigorous imprisonment each in case of non-payment of fine.
The judge acquitted their three co-accused — Aslam Khan, Amanullah and Ameer Abdullah — for the lack of evidence.
According to the prosecution, on March, 2000, deputy secretary Ziaullah Khan, his father Hameedullah, uncle Hadayatullah and brother Attaullah were present in Chiniot tehsil courts when convicts opened fire on them. Hameedullah died on the spot while ASI Akbar Khan, a court witness, sustained wounds.

Ihsan Ahmad was on his way home after irrigating his fields when he the accident took place. He died on the spot.
Police have registered a case against the tractor driver.
TWO POLICEMEN HELD: Two police constables were arrested on charge of defrauding people.
Police received an information that some policemen had organized a gang comprising some call girls. The girls were sent to wealthy people through pimps after which the policemen conducted raids and arrested them. They received huge bribes from them to let them go.
A police team after surveillance arrested constables Sadiq and Ghulam Ghaus. However, no girl has so far been arrested.
