HYDERABAD, May 29: The Hyderabad District Council on Wednesday urged the central government to stop the shifting of artefacts from Sindh to Lahore forthwith and keep them at some easily accessible place in Sindh.

The resolution was adopted on the third day of a five-day session of the council.

In another resolution, moved by labour councillor Rana Mehmood Ali Khan, the council asked the Sindh government to announce the share of each district in the National Finance Commission (NFC) award immediately to enable districts to prepare their budget.

Miran Mohammad Shah and Farheen Mughal moved the resolution concerning the shifting of artefacts from Karachi to the Lahore Fort.

They said the shifting of books and other artefacts from Karachi to Lahore would further weaken the federation.

The convenor observed that inspite of the statement of the federal minister for culture that no decision had been taken to shift the artefacts ambiguity existed on the issue.

Rana Mehmood Ali Khan moved the resolution regarding the announcement of share of the NFC award for districts.

He claimed that the Sindh minister had said that it would be announced by June 31 whereas the Sindh governor had given a different statement.

The session also passed a resolution of Majeed Wahidi which expressed concern over the procedure of the Nadra for the issuance of the NICs and demanded to appoint an officer in each taluka to receive registration forms.

The council also demanded the shifting of offices of two irrigation divisions to Tando Mohammad Khan form Badin.

Two identical resolutions were moved by Miran Mohammad Shah and Abdul Rehman Shoro on the issue, informing the council that the shifting of offices of Akram Wah and Goni Wah would result in difficulties to the growers.

Another resolution called for stone pitching of Pinyari and Phuleli canals in the jurisdiction of union council-18 and union council-10.

A resolution on the issue of the pathetic conditions prevailing in the central prison was referred to the council’s sub-committee on prison reforms.

The resolution was tabled by Rana Mehmood Ali Khan which urged the Sindh home department to improve conditions in the prison and constitute a committee to visit the prison to prepare its report for perusal of the government.
