ISLAMABAD, Feb 17: The International Islamic Relief Organization (IIRO) of Saudi Arabia on Thursday despatched emergency relief goods for victims of rains, snow and floods in Balochistan.

Federal Minister for Religious Affairs Ijaz-ul-Haq and Saudi Ambassador to Pakistan Ali Bin Saeed Bin Awad Asairi were present at the IIRO office when a caravan of trucks carrying relief goods began its journey.

The relief goods included 1,000 tents, 4,000 blankets and many items of foodstuff. Speaking on the occasion, Mr Haq said thousands of people had been affected by flash floods and snowfall in Balochistan and Northern Areas.

"President General Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz visited flood-stricken areas to distribute relief goods among the people," he added. Mr Haq appreciated the gesture of the Saudi leadership, government and people for sending relief.

"These relief items would encourage not only our own people but also other international organizations to assist the people suffering from floods," he added. Saudi Ambassador Ali Awad Asairi said that the government and people of Saudi Arabia were concerned about loss of life and property caused by the floods in Balochistan and other areas, he added.

He said the government of Pakistan took immediate relief operation to assist its people, but the people of Saudi Arabia contributed relief items to show their love and affection. -APP
