KARACHI: Power cut hits KWSB work

Published February 18, 2005

KARACHI, Feb 17: A KWSB spokesman said on Thursday that working of the board had been severely affected for the last five days owing to a cut of power supply by the KESC.

In a press release issued here, the spokesman said that engineers, officers and staff of the KWSB were trying their best to keep the system running despite the cut of power supply by the KESC to their head office near the Civic Centre and other offices at Karsaz, Gulshan Chowrangi, North Nazimabad and other areas.

He said that due to the power shutdown general public was also facing great difficulties to lodge their complaints with the KWSB. He alleged that the KESC was levelling baseless allegations against the water board.

"If we want we could cut the water supply of the KESC because of non-payment for about two years, but we are not doing so keeping in mind the wider interests of the citizens of Karachi," he said. He appealed to the government to intervene into the matter so that the crisis created by the power cut could be brought under control. -PPI
