SUKKUR, Feb 16: The ruling Pakistan Muslim League has appointed two political coordinators, one for Karachi and the other for the interior of Sindh, to mobilize party workers, help them in organizational matters and solve their problems.
Asif Khan has been appointed the coordinator for Karachi and Ghulam Mustafa Bhutto for interior of Sindh. This was stated by Sindh PML secretary-general and provincial Revenue Minister Imtiaz Ahmad Shaikh at a press conference here on Wednesday.
He said that workers were neglected in the past but now efforts would be made to solve their problems. He praised party president Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and secretary general Mushahid Hussain for evolving a policy to address grievances of workers.
Mr Shaikh said the Sindh government had lifted ban on recruitments and gave an assurance that jobs would be provided on merit. He said party membership in different districts of Sindh had begun. A cell, headed by Mr Shamimuddin, had been set up in Karachi for distribution of membership books to district and city organizations.
He observed that groupings and divisions in the past had destroyed the party but this would not be allowed now. The PML leader said his party would contest the forthcoming local bodies' elections.
He said the party was ready to form alliances for the election with like-minded people, including the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, or even contest the polls alone. About bifurcation of districts in Sindh, including Hyderabad, the minister said this was being done on administrative grounds to solve problems of people and not on ethnic basis.
Earlier, Mr Shaikh spoke at a meeting of PML workers from Khairpur, Ghotki and Sukkur at the circuit house. He called upon the workers to prepare for the local bodies' election.
PML leader from Khairpur Syed Shakir Shah, Zafar Ahmad Shaikh from Sukkur, Saleem Khan of the party's Youth Wing and Ghulam Mustafa Bhutto from Shikarpur also spoke at the meeting.
