TOBA TEK SINGH, Feb 15: Two persons were killed when the roof of a poultry farm collapsed owing to rain on Tuesday evening at the Housing Colony No 2 on the Jhang Road.
Rain fell intermittently on Monday night and Tuesday due to which the katcha room's roof fell in two workers of the farm. The two identified as Nadeem and Alamdin who were residents of Chak 384-JB (Eispur) and Chak 381-JB (Kahlwan), respectively, were buried alive.
SAHIWAL: A woman was killed while several others were hurt when mud-houses collapsed amid downpour and strong wind on Tuesday morning. Reports said the rain accompanied with lightning and thunder lashed the district, disrupting electricity and telephone connections.
In Bhuttonagar slum, Abadi Sofi Sharif and Basti Kumharan of Noorshah Town, about 10 houses collapsed causing injuries to Muhammad Din, Iqbal, Ghulam Rasool, Nabi Bakhsh, Sughra, Anwar Bibi and Kastoori.
A woman, Kareeman, was buried alive when the roof of her house at Naurez village caved in. Rainwater awashed on the streets of several other localities, including Kot Khadim Ali Shah, Kot Farid Khan, Abid Colony, Jahaz Ground and Bashir Colony. The hailstorm damaged potato and wheat crops.
GUJRANWALA: Several parts of the district remained inundated on Tuesday after a fresh spell. According to report, the road leading to the city from the Sialkot by passs intersection was flooded due to which traffic remained suspended for hours together.
Provincial Parliamentary Secretary Zila Huma Usman visited the road along with Water and Sanitation Agency Managing-Director Muhammad Bashir Tarar, director Mujahid Husain and other senior officials to take stock of the work being done to restore traffic.
She announced a grant of Rs7.5 million from special funds of the Punjab chief minister for pumping out rainwater and reconstruction of the road. She directed the Wasa officials to launch a relief operation immediately. Meanwhile, people of some area and traders protested the agency's failure to pump out rainwater.
BAHAWALPUR: Ahmadpur East, Bahawalpur and Cholistan received heavy rain causing inconvenience to people, reports PPI. Two to three feet high water was flowing on several low-lying areas. Electricity remained suspended for more than six hours on the rainy day. Walls of some mud-houses in many parts of the district collapsed.
