KARACHI, Feb 15: A KWSB spokesman on Tuesday refuted a KESC claim that power supply to water board's pumping stations and residential colonies was not snapped.

Expressing surprise over the claim, he said power supply to the LSR Colony and pumping station remained suspended between 10am and 4pm on Sunday while power supply to KWSB Staff Colony at Karsaz remained suspended for 36 hours, causing hardships to people, as well as residents of the affected colonies.

The spokesman said when Chief Controller Billing Mahmood and Incharge Distribution Jameel Gill was contacted, they told KW&SB Chief Engineer Gulzar that the power was cut off by a special squad on the instruction of the managing director of the KESC.

The spokesman said that due to the power cut many localities, particularly KDA Scheme-1, Manzoor Colony and Mehmoodabad suffered a 6-hour suspension of water supply. He asked that how it was possible to severe the electricity of offices and claim that the work would not be suffered by it.

He said that due to non-supply of power in the offices there were many hardships regarding solving problems faced by consumers and communication with various offices and water installations was also suspended as the wireless system worked on electricity.

The spokesman said that the KESC was also a defaulter of KW&SB and it had to pay dues of Rs 9,31,07000. He said that the KW&SB had paid the KESC Rs 86,47,15000 as surcharge and this amount should be paid back to the water board. -PPI
