HYDERABAD, Feb 15: Two information technology laboratories have been established at the Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences for faculty members and postgraduate students.

In a statement faxed to Dawn on Tuesday, the director of the information technology department, Prof Rafique Memon, said basic and advance IT training would be provided to staff members and postgraduate students of the university.

Mr Memon said the registration had been made mandatory for aspiring students and staff members. He said that those enrolled would have an access to Internet, digital library, printing and scanning. He urged all section heads to direct faculty members, administrative staff and postgraduate students to seek registration with the IT directorate upto Feb 28.

SPLA: Senior members of the Sindh Professor and Lecturers Association have criticized alleged irregularities at examinations of the Sindh University.

At a meeting which was presided over by Prof Liaquat Aziz, they appealed to the vice-chancellor of the university to order an impartial inquiry into the matter. The meeting decided to take full part in senate and academic council elections of the Sindh University.

It adopted several resolutions demanding issuance of notification for promotions of college teachers under four-tier formula, payment of difference in move-over cases, up gradation of librarians and directors physical training, increase in salaries of college teachers and grant of income tax exemption to teachers.

The meeting demanded that retired professors appointed in education boards of Sindh should be removed and senior professors be appointed in boards. Another resolution demanded that time-scale formula be implemented in respect of college teachers' promotions as approved by the university grant commission.

Strongly opposing privatization of colleges, the meeting demanded that teachers' academy and foundation should be reactivated, in-charge principals of colleges should be confirmed and vacant posts of lecturers be filled through the Sindh Public Service Commission.
