Published February 16, 2005

THATTA, Feb 15: The Government Secondary Teachers' Association on Tuesday observed a black day in the district to protest against police failure in arresting the killers of a youth, Saleem Soomro, the brother of a teacher.

The teachers boycotted classes, hoisted black flags on secondary schools in Thatta, Sujawal, Mirpur Bathoro, Daro, Gharo, Jati and other towns, wore black arm-bands and held meetings.

Speaking at the meetings, former president of the GSTA Ghulam Mustafa Soho and district secretary Ghulam Qadir Baghi said the murder of Soomro was a proof of inefficiency of local police.

Meanwhile, police conducted raids on different places in the areas of Parhiyarki and Sonehri Dhand and arrested more than 12 suspects, including Asghar Manchhari and Umer Khaskheli. Condition of Abdul Ghani Memon, the freind of Mr Soomro who had been shot at with him, was said to be critical at the Civil Hospital Hyderabad.
