RAJANPUR, Feb 11: The district assembly has demanded action against Rajanpur district officer (health) Dr Shahnaz Naeem for embezzling Rs16 million in four years.

The district assembly in its monthly session here on Friday passed a resolution against the health official and forwarded its report to the Punjab chief minister, the health minister and other high-ups.

The district assembly in its report alleged that Dr Shahnaz had misappropriated Rs7.5 million in the heads of bogus medicine bills, Rs6.8 million in the purchase of medicines and Rs150,000 in fake medical bills of clerks.

Besides, it said the district officer had spent Rs1.2 million in the heads of petrol in only six months. The report further said that Dr Shahnaz also tried to embezzle Rs7.5 million the Punjab government had set aside for the up gradation of Jampur Hospital.

But on the report of expected corruption in the purchase of material, the local technical committee and the director health did not approve the project. It also alleged that Dr Shahnaz had her husband Dr Naeem appointed on contract at the Dragul BHC. He was now drawing Rs12,000 salary and other allowances without performing any duty, it blamed.

Using her influence, Dr Shahnaz sent EDO (health) Dr Muhammad Hassan on leave for two months every time on the occasion of purchasing medicines and other items, the report further alleged.
