HYDERABAD, Oct 28: The district Nazim, Hyderabad, Dr Makhdoom Rafiquzzaman on Saturday presided over a meeting which discussed schemes for improvement of drainage system and water supply for Hyderabad city, and schemes of water supply regarding a filter plant at Hala Naka, Paretabad, Unit No4 Latifabad, and Hussainabad among other places.

The meeting was held at the Shahbaz Hall, Hyderabad.

The estimated cost of the schemes is Rs199 million, which will be completed within two years.

After the completion of the water supply scheme, filtered water will be supplied in all the localities of the city.

The Zila Nazim directed that the PC-I of all schemes including the new water supply scheme under phase-II should be prepared.

Dr Rafiquzzaman directed that the problem of filtered water supply must be solved on a war footing.

Later, the meeting discussed in detail the proposed special grant of Rs500 million and the Annual Development Programme (ADP) scheme. The budget will be presented in the next session of the district council, which is scheduled to be held on Monday (today).

Those who attended the meeting included the district coordination officer, Hyderabad, M. Tariq Ayub, the director general, HDA, Mishraz Ahmed Siddiqui, the managing director, WASA, Abdul Jabbar Abbasi, the executive district officers, Abdul Qadir Mangi, Shams Jafrani, and Abdul Haleem Ghori among others.

ANTI-POLIO CAMPAIGN: The Nazimeen of taluka and union councils are morally bound to perform their due role in making the anti-polio campaign a grand success in their areas by ensuring that every child upto the age of five years was administered anti-polio drops.

This was stated by the Zila Nazim, Dr Makhdoom Rafiquzzaman, while addressing the Nazims of various union councils and the citizens at the Taluka Hospital Matiari on the outskirts of Hyderabad the other day.

He said that polio was a dangerous disease and it was, therefore, important that all the children upto the age of five should be immunized against polio.

He said that the children would be administered polio drops throughout the district from November 6, 2001 to January 31, 2002 in three phases.
