KARACHI, Feb 11: An anti-terrorism court reserved judgement in a kidnapping for ransom case against a juvenile accused on Friday.
Judge Arshad Noor Khan of the ATC-3 fixed Feb 14 for pronouncement of the judgement after he heard final arguments from the prosecution and defence attorneys.
Special public prosecutor Naimat Ali Randhawa requested the court to award maximum punishment to accused Noorul Ameen, as he kidnapped a two-year-old girl for ransom on Oct 5 last year in Ibrahim Haideri.
According to prosecution, the accused kidnapped the daughter of Abdul Majeed, his teacher in calligraphy, and demanded Rs100,000 for the release of the minor girl. He was, however, arrested after three days on a tip-off by a police informer. At the time of the raid, the accused was allegedly standing near his hideout at Ali Akbar Goth where he had kept the victim.
The police arrested him and recovered the minor girl in the presence of victim's father and her maternal uncle. The public prosecutor examined five prosecution witnesses against the accused, who was prosecuted under the Juvenile Justice System Ordinance.
HAIDERI MOSQUE BLAST: An anti-terrorism court put off hearing of the Haideri Mosque bomb blast case against a worker of the banned Lashkar-i-Jhangvi as the defence counsel did not turn up.
The judge fixed Feb 14 the next hearing after he was informed that defence counsel Mushtaq Ahmed was not present. As many as 26 people were killed and 98 others injured on May 7 when a suicide bomber blew himself inside the Haideri mosque at the Sindh Madarsah. The LJ man, Gul Hasan, accused is stated to have been the mastermind of bomb blasts at Haideri Mosque and Imambargah Ali Raza.
