Paceman Khalil out of finals

Published February 5, 2005

MELBOURNE, Feb 4: Pakistan will be without Mohammad Khalil for the rest of the tri-nation cricket series after left-arm seamer collided with Rana Navedul Hasan in the outfield on Friday in the first of best-of-three finals against Australia at Melbourne.

Captain Inzamamul Haq said: "He has a dislocated shoulder which will take two or three weeks recovery so he will not be fit for the next match in Sydney." Inzamam was not discouraged by the loss, saying: "We're looking forward to Sydney which is a crunch game for us."

He was happy to restrict Australia to a total of 237 which he felt was "a good total for a chase", but the batting did not work out as planned. Inzamam said: "Our plan with the bat was to see off the new ball and after 15 overs to go for runs.

But four wickets down was the problem. "The boys are really working hard in the field and also the bowlers are doing well. Hopefully we will come good in the next game." -PPI
