KARACHI, Feb 4: Health experts at Primary Trauma Care Workshop, referring to the changing pattern of trauma in the metropolis, underscored the need for establishment of more trauma centres in Karachi.

The submission was made during the inaugural session of the three-day workshop at the SIUT held in joint collaboration with the Primary Trauma Care Foundation, the UK, and the Primary Trauma Care Foundation, Sindh chapter, here on Thursday.

The speakers elaborated that trauma situation was said to be changing towards gunshot injuries, bomb blasts and road accidents. They stressed the need to train doctors, nurses and paramedics at district level hospitals in basic trauma management which could consequently contain the incidence rate of trauma induced morbidity and mortality.

The UK faculty of the workshop comprised Dr James de Courcy, Dr Eamon McCoy and Dr John Beavis while PTC Sindh chapter included Dr Rasheed Jooma, Dr Shariq Ali, Dr Manzoor Hussain, Dr K. Shibli, Dr A.R. Jamali and Dr Saeed Samo. A large number of doctors from various parts of the country attended the workshop.

The welcome address was presented by Prof Anwar Naqvi followed by series of lectures on wide range of topics related to trauma besides on hand skill training, workshops and scenario demonstrations. -APP
