ISLAMABAD, Feb 4: The Central Board of Revenue (CBR) has yet to evolve an effective audit strategy to detect the non-compliance in the four federal taxes resulting in revenue loss to the national kitty.
Well-placed sources in the CBR told Dawn on Friday that the reforms team of CBR has yet to come up with an effective audit strategy despite the fact that the board had hired the services of an international firm two years back for the purpose.
Besides this, the CBR has also appointed a member for the audit purposes from the private sector by spending huge amount from the national kitty to prepare a national audit strategy for the four federal taxes to detect the non-compliance resulting in revenue loss annually.
The international firm has worked out a detailed report of audit functions for the CBR on the models of developed states indicating the scope, role and responsibilities of all the audit related functions. However, the report did not mention that how these could be achieved and implemented in a developing country like Pakistan.
