KARACHI, Jan 30: Sindh chief minister's adviser on Excise and Taxation M A Jalil has barred the rectified spirit licence holders from selling denatured spirit so as to stop its misuse.

He issued the directives on Sunday. The adviser issued the order as he had come to know that that some licence holders were selling rectified spirit under the cover of denatured spirit.

Denatured spirit is used in producing local liquor, which proves fatal for consumers. Mr Jalil also took strict notice of the fact that users of rectified spirit were being issued permits for larger quantities instead of the approved quantity.

He directed that quota for rectified spirit should be revised to check its illegal trade, and the licence holders should be allowed to maintain only specified quota for use in preparation of medicines.

The adviser issued instructions to the department officials to strictly monitor the sale purchase process of licence holders to ensure prudent use of spirit and to check illegal business of producing fake liquor. He said strict action would be taken against the officials found negligent in this respect. -APP
