ISLAMABAD, Jan 28: The review petition of the All Pakistan Newspaper Society (APNS) against the Seventh Wage Board Award for newspaper employees has been fixed for next Tuesday (Feb 1) before bench-II of the Supreme Court.

The first bench, according to the cause list of the Supreme Court, will comprise Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Nazim Hussain Siddiqui, Justice Javed Iqbal and Justice Abdul Hameed Dogar. Bench-II consists of Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry, Justice Rana Bhagwandas and Justice M Javed Buttar. This bench is scheduled to hear the APNS petition.

At the last hearing the bench had adjourned the proceedings until the first week of February on a request from APNS counsel Abdul Hafeez Pirzada who said he would be out of the country because of family commitments during the intervening period.

Moved by 25 petitioners including different newspaper owners, the APNS instituted the review petition before the Supreme Court by contending that certain errors of law floating on record in the order of dismissing its earlier constitutional petition, justify review of the order of dismissal.

Supreme Court bench-III will consist of Justice Hamid Ali Mirza and Justice Mohammad Nawaz Abbasi, while Justice Sardar Mohammad Raza Khan and Justice Falak Sher will form bench-IV.

Bench-V will consist of Justice Khalilur Rehman Ramday and Justice Mian Shakirullah Jan whereas bench-VI will comprise Justice Faqir Mohammad Khokhar and Justice Tassadduq Hussain Jillani.

On Feb 4, bench-II will hear bail petition of suspended Jail Superintendent Sialkot Sikandar Hayat, being held after the 2003 infamous murder of four civil judges, killed during inspection of the Sialkot jail.

The jail superintendent was suspended when sessions judge Chaudhry Zafar Hussain along with civil judges and judicial magistrates, inspecting the Sialkot jail on July 25, 2003, to hear complaints of prisoners were fired upon by jail inmates namely Ashfaq, Shahbaz, Ijaz, Mohammad Rafiq and Munir, when the judges were returning after completing the visit.

The same bench will also hear on Feb 3 cases against forfeiture of performance bond by the Private Power and Infrastructure Board (PPIB) after clubbing three appeals instituted on common grounds concerning Spencer Powergen, Rupali Power and Tri-Star Energy.
