KARACHI, Jan 28: Federal Education Minister Lt-Gen (Retd) Javed Ashraf Qazi has proposed closer interaction between the policy-makers and the Areas Study Centre for Europe (ASCE), University of Karachi.
He came up with such a suggestion during a visit to the institution here on Friday. The director of the ASCE, Prof Dr Naveed Ahmad Tahir, briefed the minister of her centre's activities.
The minister also visited the library, the administrative, teaching and research sections of the ASCE and met the students and the staff members. The Acting Vice Chancellor of Karachi University, Prof Dr Mohammad Qaiser, was also present.
The minister appreciated the work done by the ASCE, especially its publications, its seminars, workshops, its M Phil course work, as well as European languages' programmes.
He also appreciated the fact that the European Union institutions, acknowledging the ASCE's dynamism in disseminating information and analysis on European affairs, had established collaborative ventures with the ASCE.
However, Javed Ashraf Qazi emphasised that the policy-making institutions of Pakistan were not making optimum use of the research output of the ASCE. He proposed closer interaction between the policy-makers and the ASCE. -APP
