LAHORE: Robbers kill motorcyclist

LAHORE, Jan 26: Robbers shot dead a youngster at Halloki in Kahna on Wednesday. Muhammad Din told police that his son Naeem, 22, left his house to visit his sister to show her new motorcycle.

Four gunmen held him up on the way. He put up resistance when they tried to take away his motorcycle. They opened fire on him and drove away with the motorcycle. He died on the spot.

The body was sent to the city mortuary for autopsy. A case was registered with no arrest. Two gunmen burst into a grocery owned by Masood Ahmad in Samanabad and made off with cash and valuables worth Rs60,000, and also thrashed him on resistance. Two cars were stolen in Gulberg and another in Barkat Market, while a motorcycle was taken away by two armed men in Shahdara.

ARRESTED: Police claimed on Wednesday to have arrested 13 alleged thieves. Five of the alleged thieves were rounded up in Old Anarkali on a tip-off. They were Yousuf, Imran, Sadiq, Shaukat and Muzammal. Five pistols and valuables were seized from them. They confessed to 11 crimes against property.

Two others were held in Mughalpura. They were identified as Jehangir and Arshad. Booty worth Rs500,000 was recovered from them. Six members of yet another gang of alleged thieves were rounded up in city police circle. They were identified as Allah Ditta, Saleem, Mushtaq, Ishfaq, Babar and Younus. Stolen bales of clothes worth Rs600,000 were seized from them.
