KARACHI, Jan 25: Adviser on Environment and Alternate Energey Noman Saigal on Tuesday met 525 Indian fishermen interned in Landhi Jail and assured them of their early release.

During his visit to Landhi jail, the adviser also met the interned children, inquired about their problems and assured to solve them. Noman Saigal said that present government believes in justice and it would be dispensed to all. He said that those who are innocent would be released.

He also visited the hospital's dispensary and took notice of shortage of medicines. He said he would contact the health department for supply of medicines. Later, he asked the jail administration to provide the record of prisoners who are in jail because and were unable to pay the fine or were incapable of hiring lawyers so that efforts could be made for their release.

The advisor was informed that jail had a capacity for 650 prisoners but has 3,500 inmates. He was informed that overcrowding is causing disease, including AIDS while insanitation was also spoiling the environment.

Noman Saigal said he would contact the authorities and apprise them of the situation. He asked the jail administration to plant trees for an improved environment. He directed that internees be shown better behaviour. -APP
