SANGHAR, Jan 23: A gambler was killed and another injured allegedly by a police officer after a dispute over gambling money at Head Jamrao, 50 kilometres from here, on Saturday.

It is alleged that the officer, an ASI, and some of the policemen and villagers were gambling. It is said that the ASI lost some money but he demanded its return. The villagers refused to do so and the ASI allegedly opened fire, killing Anwar Ali Khaskheli and injuring Ayub Soomro.

The policemen left the check-post after the crime. The Jam Sahib police have registered a case against two unidentified men on the complaint of Mumtaz Ali, the uncle of the deceased.

However, no arrest has been made till the filing of this report. The Head Jamrao is a confluence point of Nawabshah, Sanghar and Khairpur districts and the police of each district have a check-post there.

RABID DOG: A rabid dog spread fear in the town on Sunday when it attacked more than 20 people, 10 of whom were admitted to the Civil Hospital. Some victims told journalists that anti-rabies vaccine was not available at the hospital and it cost between Rs2,500 and Rs3,000 at private stores, which was unaffordable for many of them.

Sanghar Taluka Nazim Waheed Nizamani said that several parties with guns had been looking for the dog which had disappeared after attacking the victims. The police were also informed and police parties in vans were also patrolling on the roads and streets.
