Investment in SIZs to be encouraged

Published January 19, 2005

ISLAMABAD, Jan 18: The government is trying its best to activate the current Special Industrial Zones (SIZs) in order to increase the pace of industrialization, as rapid industrialization would play a pivotal role in the economic development and offer employment opportunities in the area.

Federal Minister for Industries, Production and Special Initiative Jehangir Khan Tareen said this while presiding over a high level meeting aimed at reviewing the progress of "Special Industrial Zones" in the country.

The minister was informed that two Special Industrial Zones (SIZs) were already working in Nawabshah and Windher, Balochistan. The minister was also requested to provide them with some relief in tariff terms and was invited to visit these zones.

The minister assured them that he would raise their tariff concerns with the Ministry of Communication and the CBR. He said the government was determined to providing all possible facilities and incentives to the business community to encourage them to make investment in these zones.

He also urged the businessmen to come forward and make the most of the incentives provided by the government. The meeting was also attended by Additional Secretary (in charge) Ministry of Industries and Production, and the representatives of the Special Industrial Zones.
