LAHORE, Jan 13: Nuclear scientist and prime minister's special adviser Dr Ishfaq Ahmad has said lack of interest in physics among Pakistani youth was a matter of great concern.

He said educational institutions should find ways and means to attract youth towards the subject to produce world class physicists. Dr Ahmad was speaking at the special session on the third day of the four-day 10th national symposium on 'Frontiers in Physics' organized by the Pakistan Physical Society (PPS) at the Government College University on Thursday.

He lamented the poor involvement of Balochistan and Sindh in the activities for the development of physics in the country. He stressed that the participants from Sindh and Balochistan should take steps to attract youth towards the subject.

He said physics did not have any glamour but the tenure track system of the Higher Education Commission would provide strength to attract young scientists to this profession.

"It is not money but passion for national development that counts," he added. Dr G. Murtaza, Dr Riazuddin, Dr Fayyazuddin, Dr Asghar Qadir and Dr Pervez Hoodbhoy also spoke on the occasion.

CLOSING CEREMONY: Noted nuclear scientist and old Ravian Dr Samar Mubarak Mand will be the chief guest at the symposium on Friday (today).
