GILGIT, Jan 12: The Northern Areas administration on Wednesday evacuated over a dozen stranded Korean tourists and traders from the border town of Sust in upper Hunza to down country during a two-hour break in curfew on Wednesday, an official said.

No untoward incident was reported from any part of the city or any other area. A large number of people purchased foodstuff and other essentials during the curfew break.

Deputy Commissioner Sajid Baloch, in a press note said they had transported over 6,000 stranded people, including patients who left for their destinations escorted by the security personnel.

The curfew was clamped after violence which erupted in Gilgit after an assassination bid on the life of a top Shia prayer leader, Agha Ziauddin Rizvi, on Saturday. He is under treatment at the Combined Military Hospital, Rawalpindi.
