SADIQABAD, Jan 12: The boys primary school at Chak 165-P has been facing acute shortage of human and material resources for almost two decades now.

Established in 1971, the institution promised to cater to the educational needs of the district's urban locality (Chak 165-P). However, it gradually fell on evil days.

It is, at present, without shelter due to which students have to sit under the sky even in extreme weather conditions. The roof of the school collapsed because of use of defective construction material. It is also without toilet.

One can imagine the difficulties children have to face here due to absence of potable water facility. As there is no peon to look after the building, children have to mop chairs and desks by themselves. Nor is there any watchman to guard it.

Power disruptions, especially during summer, test patience of young students who can hardly pay attention to their studies. As many as 90 students are on the school rolls, but only two teachers have been posted there.

Complaints lodged by the parents and wards of the students have so far fallen on deaf ears. Even the protests of eminent personalities have failed to shake conscience of the authorities concerned.

It is pertinent to mention that the building was constructed on a self-help basis thanks to the local philanthropists, who contributed towards the cause of education. As the original structure developed cracks and turned shabby, the building was renovated by the government. However, the material used in the construction proved to be of substandard quality due to which the school's roof developed cracks and its walls collapsed.

District council education committee chairman Rana Tariq Mehmood Khan is learnt to have directed the sub-engineer (building) to undertake renovation, but the latter has yet to take up the project. Worried about the children's future, residents of the village have demanded that the government should renovate the building of the school and equip it with all facilities.
