FAISALABAD, Jan 11: Two bandits were killed, one injured seriously and one of their accomplices was rounded up in two 'encounters' here on Tuesday.

Three dacoits forced their entry into the house of Muhammad Akram in Dhudiwala and started looting valuables at gunpoint. The owner put up resistance and raised an alarm.

The area people informed the police. The outlaws fearing their arrest opened fire on police which was retaliated. During an hour-long shootout, two dacoits sustained serious injuries while the police arrested their third accomplice.

The injured were shifted to the Allied Hospital where one of them died who was identified as Haider Ali of Namat Colony, Faisalabad. The condition of injured Rashid of Bahawalnagar, was stated to be critical. Amin of Mansoorabad has been handed over to the investigation squad.

In the second encounter, three dacoits looted a jewellery shop in main bazaar, Mamukanjan, about 45km from here and managed to escape. The shopkeeper informed the police which encircled the area. In the meantime, gangsters who were riding a car (BRH-811) were intercepted by the Tandlianwala police.

During a shootout, an unidentified bandit was killed while his two accomplices fled taking the advantage of public rush. District Police Officer Muhammad Amin Wains told the press that the deceased gangsters were wanted in many cases. He also announced cash prizes and commendations certificates for the policemen.
