Political parties asked to unite

QUETTA, Jan 9: The Pukhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party has urged political parties to launch a joint struggle against the government.

Speaking at a public meeting held to observe the 16th death anniversary of PMAP leader Razzak Khan Dotani here on Sunday, speakers said that without recognising the rights of smaller provinces the country could not become a politically stable state.

PMAP MPA Abdur Rahim Ziaratwal, MPA Sardar Azam Musakhel, Usman Kakar, William Barkat and Jamshed Dotani addressed the gathering. Razzak Khan Dotani rendered sacrifices for democratic rule and struggled against Zia's martial law, Mr Ziaratwal said, adding that again the nation was confronted with another army ruler.

He criticized the Muttihada Majlis-i-Amal for strengthening the hands of President Gen Pervez Musharraf to endorse the 17th amendment and paving way for establishment of the National Security Council.

He demanded that all divided administrative areas inhabited by Pukhtuns in the NWFP, Balochistan and the Federally-Administrated Tribal Areas should be amalgamated in one united administrative province and should be named Pukhtunkhwa, Pukhtunistan or Afghania.

The meeting adopted several resolutions demanding the government to compensate the victims of drought-hit areas and the affected farmers' bank loans should be waived off; privatization o Wapda should be put off; and funds in the projects of water management programme should be distributed on merit.
