Imran criticizes govt policies

KARACHI, Jan 9: Chief of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI), Imran Khan, has said that since the entire government machinery is trying to save just one man, the masses will have to struggle hard to safeguard their interests.

Mr Khan was speaking to party workers in Kaemari Town after opening his party's office there. Referring to the murder of Baloch Ittehad Tehreek chief, Anwar Bhaijan, in Kalakot and attempts on the life of religious scholar Agha Ziauddin in Gilgit, he said the violent incidents showed that security measures were taken only to save those who were in government, while no one bothered about the opposition leaders or the common people.

He said the government had no package for the welfare and prosperity of the common man. Expecting that a government which could not meet the basic requirements of the people, like clean water and uninterrupted electricity, would bring about improvements in the education, health and employment sectors was nothing but absurd.

Attempts were being made by the rulers to convince the masses that the country had been put on a path to economic progress, by feeding them a surfeit of questionable data, against the ground realities in which the rich became richer and the poor became poorer, he said.

Mr Khan claimed that his party had been striving for prosperity, progress and rule of law through the fundamental principles of democracy and constitution. He urged the people to come forward and join the PTI movement "for a stable Pakistan".

The president of PTI Sindh, Mirza Jehangir Rehman, said the party workers were awaiting the call of their chairman. The results in the upcoming local government elections would be a proof that people were with them, he added.
