ISLAMABAD, May 27: Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Anatoly Safonov arrived here on Monday to push forward Russian President Vladimir Putin’s proposal to arrange face-to-face talks between the Pakistani and Indian leaders.

The summit, aimed at averting a looming conflict between the nuclear- armed rivals, would be held on the sidelines of the Council of Cooperation on Confidence Measures in Asia to be held in Almaty, Kazakhstan, on June 3-5.

Safonov met foreign ministry officials on Monday and on Wednesday will hold talks with Foreign Minister Abdul Sattar, officials said.—AFP
