SWABI, Jan 9: Unicef has launched a campaign to raise awareness, especially of women, about polio and the importance of its eradication, according to a Unicef official.

Briefing newsmen about the forthcoming anti-polio drive, Dr Shaheen Iqbal said teams had been visiting houses to educate people about the importance administering polio drops to their children. The anti-polio drive will start on Tuesday across the NWFP.

Tea ms' supervisor Dr Fazal Malik, EPI coordinator Dr Muhammad Tariq and another Unicef representative Dr Riaz Ali Khan were present on the occasion. Dr Tariq said polio drops would be given to 231,000 children in the district Swabi and the 750 lady health workers would participate in the campaign. Total 447 teams have been formed.

In reply to a question, he said some children had not been present in their houses during the previous campaign which dropped their target to 97 per cent, but this time such loopholes would be overcome.
