KARACHI, Jan 5: Arrangements are being made on urgent basis for filling over 1,500 vacant posts of lecturers. This was announced by the Sindh Professors and Lecturers Association (SPLA) in a statement on Wednesday.

It said a delegation of the SPLA led by its Central President, Prof Manzoor Hussain Chishti, met with the Sindh education secretary. Problems of teachers in the province were discussed in detail at the meeting.

The SPLA statement said it was also informed at the meeting that SNE with respect to the new colleges would be made available soon, and that the Sindh Teachers Foundation and the College Teachers Academy would be reactivated.

The statement said the meeting was informed that sanction would be obtained from the chief secretary in a week's time for the promotion of lecturers from grade 17 to 18 and from grade 18 to 19.

The chief secretary would be requested to convene the meeting of the provincial selection board. Orders for the move over from grade 19 to 20 would be issued in a week's time.

The meeting was also informed that the seniority list of grade 17 would be released within this month. A decision in the light of objections regarding the seniority list of grade 19 would be made soon after which action would be initiated regarding promotions from grade 19 to 20.

The SPLA statement further said that the committee set up by the chief secretary with regard to the privatization of St Joseph's and St Patrick's colleges would submit its report in the light of objections from various sections. It also said that appointments would be promptly made against vacant posts of principals of colleges. - APP
