Published January 3, 2005

QUETTA, Jan 2: Three people died of gas suffocation in the Killi Barozai area, while two people were shot dead here on Sunday.

Sources said gas victims died in sleep in the wee hours of Sunday as they had forgotten to switch off gas heater before going to bed.

They were identified as Nasir Khan, Aminullah and Abdul Jabbar. A woman and her three children died on Friday night when gas from their heater filled their room.

Quetta is in the grip of an intense cold wave following heavy rains and snow. Incidents of gas suffocation occur every year in winter despite repeated warnings by officials to switch off room heaters before going to bed.

SHOT DEAD: Two people were shot dead in the main bazaar on Fatima Jinnah Road here on Sunday. Sources said an unidentified man opened fire on Alam Shah who died on the spot. A passer by, Ajab Gul, was also hit by bullets when he attempted to help Alam Shah.
