KARACHI, Dec 30: The judicial magistrate, South, Rubab Fatima, dismissed on Thursday an acquittal application of Wasim Akram, former cricket star, in a forgery case.

The former skipper, who has been on bail in the case, was booked by the Darakhshan police in 2002 on a complaint of Saadat Hayat, who alleged that Mr Akram had deprived him of his Potohar jeep fraudulently.

According to the complainant, the former test cricketer had borrowed his vehicle for a few days. However, later, Mr Akram got the vehicle registered in his own name. The former skipper stated that Hayat had gifted him the vehicle. Later, he started blackmailing him and finally he implicated him in the case.

REMANDED: The judicial magistrate, West, Mumtaz Solongi, remanded Shoaib Khan, an alleged key figure of the gangland, in a murder case. The magistrate gave Shoiab Khan into police custody for investigation in the murder case of Akbar Khan. The Pak Colony police had registered the case against unknown killers on Jan 12, 2003.

The magistrate gave the accused into police custody for three days, though the investigators had sought his 14-day custody. The police produced the alleged don of the underworld in handcuffs and muffled amid tightened security. Earlier on Wednesday the police brought the wanted man, Shoaib Khan, believed to be underworld don, to the city after his arrest in Lahore.
