Asim and Wasif cruise into semi-finals

ISLAMABAD, Dec 29: Top seed Asim Shafik, Yaseen Abbasi, Saeedul Haq and second seed Wasif Cheema moved into the men's singles semi-finals by beating their respective opponents in the Quaid-i-Azam tennis championship at the clay courts of PTF Tennis Complex on Wednesday.

Asim gunned down upcoming Noumanul Haq in straight sets 6-1, 6-1. Yaseen played against Raja Taimur in another well-contested match of the day. Earlier, Yaseen upset fourth seed Usman Ijaz but Wasif Cheema and Saeedul Haq won their matches easily.

Usman, Zulfikar Ahmed, Changez Afridi and Noumanul Haq qualified for the semi-finals of boys under-18 by beating their respective opponents. In the boys U-14 event, Abid Ali and Arjumand Masood will meet in the finals on Thursday.

Abid won his match against Sadanul Haq without conceding a single game. Arjumand had tough time to eliminate Farad Ali. Arjumand won the 5-3,5-4(4). In the ladies event, Mehvish Chishtie and Natasha Afridi will meet in the final after beating their opponents in straight sets. Mehvish won her match against Fatima Mansoor while Natasha Afridi downed Sara Mehboob.
