KARACHI, Dec 24: Former Pakistan captain and coach Javed Miandad demanded on Friday that Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) ad hoc chairman Mr. Shaharyar M. Khan should make public "other reasons" for his ouster as the coach of the national team.

"This kind of statement from a veteran diplomat and a senior administrator has created doubts in the minds of cricket followers, my fans and badly tarnished my image," Miandad said in a rejoinder to the PCB chairman.

Shaharyar told journalists the other day that Miandad was sacked after the Indian visit not due to the loss of Test and ODI series but for some "other reasons". "PCB chairman should make those "other reasons" public for my ouster as coach of the Pakistan team," declared the veteran of 124 Tests Miandad in a statement.

"The statement also creates an impression in the minds of followers of the game that I could have been involved in betting and match-fixing," he maintained. Miandad said the utterances by the PCB chief had tarnished his cricketing reputation and he was considering taking legal action against PCB and its chief.

He claimed that it was surprising for him that PCB boss had offered him to become an adviser of the team as well as run the academies after his sacking as coach and now he was coming up with different things.

The former Pakistan great claimed that Pakistan performed much better during his stint as coach as compared to "zero" showing under Bob Woolmer. Miandad said being a great well wisher of Pakistan cricket, he was utterly disappointed with the performance of the national team in Australia which suffered history's fourth biggest 491-run defeat in the first Test in Perth.

He pointed out that President General Pervez Musharraf, who was the Patron-in-Chief of PCB had always lauded his services and even called him (Miandad) the Commander of Pakistan cricket who would fight till the last ball.

Miandad again claimed that his renumerations were far less than Woolmer with hefty fee, plus bonuses and benefits. "I was getting money on a match-to-match basis." He said the task ahead of the PCB was to take care of international cricket and not to concentrate on school, club and lower level cricket. "PCB has reduced domestic cricket to mediocrity with matches ending in two and three days," he alleged. -APP
