LANDI KOTAL, Dec 23: Protesting Sultankhel tribesmen cleared the main Peshawar-Torkhum road on Thursday afternoon after the political administration announced monetary compensation for the families of two men killed by bandits.

The road had been blocked since Tuesday when the tribesmen placed on the main road the bodies of two transporters who had been dead by bandits in Ghotki, Sindh.

All Pakistan Oil Tankers Association chairman Yousuf Shahwani and senator from the Khyber Agency Hafiz Abdul Malik played an important role in persuading the agitating tribesmen to clear the road.

The blockade had caused a lot of problems for commuters in the area. A large number of vehicles taking necessary items to Afghanistan remained stranded at various points on the highway due to the blockade. Angry protesters had also forced closure of the Landi Kotal bazaar which caused shortage of food and other items on Thursday.
