Akram, Athar frustrate LW

LAHORE, Dec 15: Fine batting by Faisal Athar and opener Akram Khan helped Hyderabad collect 235 for three wickets against Lahore Whites in the first innings on the opening day of Quaid-i-Azam Trophy at Qadhafi Stadium, on Wednesday.

Faisal was batting at 76 while Akram made 54 as the visitors, who were at the 10th position in the 11-team contest with only six points, scored their runs in 86 overs. Faisal cracked 13 fours and one six off 127 balls. Akram smashed nine boundaries in his sedate knock in which he faced 164 balls during a long stay of 201 minutes.

Faisal with Shahid Qambrani (38, seven fours, 102 balls) had mustered 90 runs in fourth wicket partnership. Lahore Whites, trailing at the 7th place with 15 points, tried seven bowlers but only right-arm medium-pacer Kamran Sajid emerged with honours taking two wickets for 46.
