SWABI, Dec 15: The Executive District Officer for literacy and education has appointed 84 female teachers for primary, middle and high schools of the district, it was learnt here on Tuesday. Out of them, 71 have been appointed for primary schools as "adult skilled teachers".

Sources said each teacher would get a fixed salary of Rs1,800 per month, for teaching in primary schools of their respective union council. The primary school teachers, the sources said, would impart different skills to the girls, especially handicraft skill and the head teacher of each school and education officials would monitor their activities.

The idea behind these appointments, sources said, was to produce skilled students and if it worked according to the plan their number would be increased. The appointments, sources said, were only for four months but were expected to be continued for an indefinite period.

However, sources said the continuation of their services would be subject to availability of funds, and if the education department faces any financial crunch they would be terminated.

"These appointments are purely on temporary/contract and liable to termination without any reason", said the sources while quoting the terms and conditions of the job.

The remaining 13 female teachers were theology (TTs) and Arabic teachers (ATs) who would get their appointment letters very soon and would have to take charges of their duties within 14 days.

The sources said that 14 AT and 20 TT male teachers had also been appointed by the education department bring the total number to 118. It was to be mentioned here that the education department had also appointed 495 male and female primary school teachers last month to overcome the shortage of teachers in public sector institutions.

DEMANDED: The Ulema Teachers have demanded that provincial government should come forward to resolve the problems of the ATs, TTs and Qari teachers.
