KARACHI, Dec 13: The All Parties Action Committee, comprising various religious and political parties, including components of the Muttahida Majlis-i- Amal and Alliance for Restoration of Democracy, on Monday staged a token hunger strike outside the Press Club against uniform of President Pervez Musharraf.

Speaking on the occasion, the city chief of the Jamaat-i-Islami, Dr Merajul Huda Siddiqui, said President Gen Musharraf must shed his military uniform by Dec 31, otherwise people would take to streets for strengthening the movement against the uniform.

APAC convenor and leader of the Jamiat Ulma Pakistan (JUP), Qazi Ahmed Noorani, said the committee would continue its struggle till the restoration of democracy. He termed the APAC the biggest political alliance in the country, claiming that all patriotic opposition parties had joined hands in this alliance against the military government.

The president of the Pakistan Democratic Party (PDP), Sindh, Bashrat Mirza, said the government had paralyzed the democratic process in the country through its unconstitutional and illegal 'stunts'. He demanded immediate resignation of President Musharraf. -PPI
