KARACHI, Dec 13: Justice Mohammad Moosa K Leghari of the Sindh High Court granted bail to an accused of human trafficking against a solvent surety of Rs 100,000. Sadaruddin Panwhar moved the bail plea, claiming to be a victim himself and not an agent.

According to prosecution, the accused was deported by the UAE authorities with 399 other deportees in a launch Al-Fanan. When the launch reached Karachi port, some of the passengers pointed out that Sadaruddin was an agent who took Rs 15,000 from each of them for providing them jobs at UAE. He was then booked by the FIA.

When his bail plea was taken up, standing counsel conceded the bail, saying that applicant himself was in the launch, and, therefore, cannot be held responsible solely for the alleged act.

The bench admitted the accused to concession of bail holding that it was a case of further inquiry. Justice Mohammad Moosa K Leghari of the Sindh High Court also dismissed as infructuous, a jail appeal filed by two accused after Superintendent of Karachi Central Prison (KCP) informed the court that both the accused have been released as they have served their respective sentences.

Kamran Ali and Burnod Jackson, were sentenced to a jail term of five years each and fined for Rs 5000 by ADJ-III, East on August 23, 2000. According to prosecution, they committed dacoity in the house of complainant Jordge Sardar, a police official on May 18, 1999, and were caught red-handed. The accused moved the court seeking mercy of the court.

When their appeal came up for hearing on Monday, jail authorities submitted a report stating that both Kamran and Burnod have been released on June 2, 2001 and December 16, 2001, respectively, after they served out their sentences. The bench then dismissed the petition as infructuous.

FRAUD CASE: Notices were issued to the deputy attorney general in two constitutional petitions filed by an accused involved in immigration and passport fraud case for a date to be fixed later by the office of the court by Justice Rahmat Hussain Jaffery.
