LARKANA, Dec 12: Five people were killed in a heavy exchange of fire between Chandio and Jeho tribes some 30 kilometres off here on Sunday. About 2.5 acres of land in the Jewan Shah village, near Naudero town, was the bone of contention and the two groups were claiming it their property.

Mumtaz Bhutto had convened a jirga and settled the dispute, asking the Chandios to hand over the possession of land to the Jehos. But the Chandios did not hand over the possession of land to the Jehos.

When the Jehos went to the site for wheat cultivation, the armed Chandios opened fire on them, killing four Jeho tribesmen dead on the spot. Those killed were identified as Zamir, son of Allah Dino Rahujo, Gul Mohammed, son of Ramzan Rahujo, Karim Jeho and Hakim Jeho.

The assailants fled after committing the crime. In retaliation, the Jehos shot dead Raza Mohammed Chandio who was working in the field. Police shifted the bodies to the Naudero hospital.

There was tension in the area. Heavy contingents of police along with armoured personnel carrier have been deployed in the area to avert any untoward incident, police said. Around 10 suspects have also been arrested from the area. No FIR was registered till the filing of the report.
