KARACHI, Dec 10: A boy and a woman died in road accidents in different areas of the city on Friday. A 13-year-old boy died in a road accident in Orangi Town.

Police said that Hafiz Rehmat was crossing a main road in Gulshan-i-Bihar, Orangi Town sector 16, when a speeding minibus (PE-4813) knocked him down causing instant death. The police said that the driver of the vehicle managed to flee the spot. A young woman died in a hit-and-run accident in Korangi.

Police said that Najma, 35, wife of Saleemuddin, was crossing a main road near Godown Chowrangi, Korangi, when an unknown speeding vehicle knocked her down. The victim died on the spot, her body was shifted to the JPMC for legal formalities. The victim was a resident of PECHS, the police added.

BODY FOUND: Body of an unidentified woman, stuffed in a gunny bag, was found in Phase-VIII of Defence near a mosque no Friday evening, police said. The police shifted the decomposed body, which was at least two days old, to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for post-mortem examination. The victim's cause of death could not be ascertained till the filing of this report, as autopsy examination was awaited.

DIES: A minor died of suffocation, after a fire erupted in a private hospital in Gulshan-i-Iqbal on Friday morning. The officials of the Edhi Foundation said that the 20-day-old baby died of suffocation as the fire erupted in the hospital. The cause of the fire was attributed to some mal-functioning of equipment, the Edhi sources added.

ARRESTED: Police on Thursday night arrested two gangs of bandits in Gulshan-i-Iqbal, and recovered valuables and pistols from the bandits. Gulshan ASP Noman Siddiqui told Dawn that two suspects on a motorcycle snatched jewellery and cell phone from a couple travelling in a rickshaw near NIPA Chowrangi. As the couple raised alarm, two policemen on a motorcycle chased the suspects and intercepted them near Moti Mehal, the ASP claimed.
