Goods train derails

RAHIM YAR KHAN, Dec 9: Rail traffic on the main line between Karachi and Lahore remained suspended for over four hours on Thursday after two container wagons of a goods train derailed near Khanpur station.

PR officials in Khanpur said that the wagons derailed shortly after the train left the Khanpur railway station for an upcountry destination at 2pm. A container fell on the tracks which caused complete suspension of the traffic.

A rescue team comprising technical experts was rushed to the spot from Sukkur which was able to repair and restore traffic on the up-track by 6pm. Railway authorities said apparently the accident was caused by some technical faults but the exact cause would be known after investigation.
