Qasim's US visit delayed

LAHORE, Dec 7: Pakistan goalkeeper Mohammad Qasim, suffering from lung cancer, could not proceed to United States for medical treatment because of visa problems.

The goalkeeper had appointment on Dec 6 at a Washington hospital but could not leave for the US since the consulate in Lahore had called him for issuance of visa on Dec 7.

However, US consulate officials did not issue visa, saying they would be needing more documents. "I had appointment at the hospital in Washington for Dec 6. But I could not go to US as I was called by US consulate for obtaining visa today. I was told that visa could be issued after supporting documents," he told Dawn.

Qasim said US consulate had asked for bank statement, a letter from PHF assuring that it would bear all expenses. "Besides the two documents, US consulate had asked PHF to send a representative who will assure that PHF will bear the expenses," he said. Qasim said the PHF secretary had assured to provide the documents.
