Sohail, Salman in run for award

LAHORE, Dec 7: Three Pakistanis - Mohammad Nadeem, Sohail Abbas and Salman Akbar - are in the run for the world hockey player and most promising player of the year awards.

Former captain Nadeem, who was axed from the squad soon after Athens Olympics, and penalty corner striker Sohail, have been nominated for the player of the year award.

PLAYER OF THE YEAR AWARD NOMINEES: Sohail Abbas (Pakistan), Mohammad Nadeem (Pakistan), Gagan Ajit Singh (India), Ronald Brouwer (The Netherlands), Jeroen Delmee (The Netherlands), Jamie Dwyer (Australia), Bevan George (Australia), Craig Jackson (South Africa), Dilip Tirkey (India) and Xavier Ribas (Spain). Most promising player of the year award nominees: Salman Akbar (Pakistan), Adrian D'Souza (India), Floris Evers (The Netherlands), Santiago Freixa (Spain), Rob Hammond (Australia), Mark Knowles (Australia), Matias Paredes (Argentina), Eddie Tubau (Spain), Matthias Witthaus (Germany) and Christophe Zeller (Germany).
