COLOMBO, Dec 7: Dozens of Buddhist monks led a protest march to the Indian diplomatic mission in Colombo on Tuesday to stop Bollywood stars staging a concert this weekend on the death anniversary of a revered monk.

The monks said they had no objection to Shahrukh Khan and his troupe performing in Sri Lanka, but they opposed the concert because it coincided with the first death anniversary of widely-known monk Gangodawila Soma.

The monks said the coming weekend had been reserved by them for "meritorious deeds and mourning." They urged Indian High Commissioner (ambassador) Nirupama Rao to intervene and stop the December 11 show. "We request you to inform Mr Shahrukh Khan about the special two days of religious activities," the monks said in their petition. -AFP
